The world championship is well underway in Monte Carlo and it's great to be able to report that Shino has won his first 3 matches and so will play the fourth round of the undefeated bracket today. His opponent will be Eli Roymi, who won the world championship in 2019.
Many of the big name players found themselves in the second chance bracket early on, including Mochy, Sander Lylloff, Michy (who has unfortunately lost there too), last year's winner Frank Frigo (now eliminated by Jon Barnes) and my favourite Akiko Yazawa. Go Akiko!
Meanwhile, back down on earth, us mortals played a whole lot of backgammon on Monday night as well, including Anna and Merzad (in the picture) and 16 more players. The three Swiss were won by Zigi, Darryl Artt and Gavin Anderson - congratulations to them and thanks to everyone who came along and played.
For those interested in following Shino and everyone else in Monte Carlo, there are daily streams on youtube; it's luck of the draw (so to speak) who they decide to show.
家に持って帰ってください!That's bring it home, Shino! (in case he can't read google's Japanese.)
