The return of the classic Swiss... and more

If you've not been recently, why not do like Andre, Florin and Dan who've made it their new year's resolution to play more backgammon at BGiE? (Tariq couldn't play any more if he tried.)

The experiment is officially over. After 5 months of trialling separate £10, £20 and £30 pools for our Swiss tournaments, we have decided simple is best. From next Monday we will be going back to the classic Swiss principles of an optional* £10 side pool with the winner getting the pot minus any £10 returned to players that win 2 of their 3 matches.

For a fully subscribed 8 player Swiss this means three players get their £10 stake back and the winner gets £50.

This week saw the February editions of our Grand Prix F1 (won by Ionel Florea) and F2 (won by Steve O'Connor) - congratulations to both of them and a big thank you to all 28 players that turned up at the start line.

We are also making some adjustments to the Grand Prix F2, to align with the changes we are making to the Swiss tournaments. From March the F2 will be £10 or £0 entry only and all matches will be 5 points to ensure we finish at a reasonable time.

And if that wasn't enough, next Wednesday is also the February edition of the Ealing Invitational Knockout - the side pool entry is a mandatory £50 and it's limited to 16 players. There are a few places still available - sign up now!

But before that, there's the classic Swiss next Monday to enter - see you there!

*We will always try to make Swiss tournaments of 8, but when the number of players doesn't make that possible we will also make tournaments of 6. The number of £0 entries per 8-player Swiss will be limited to 2 and for a 6-player Swiss it will be limited to 1.
