Analysis
I’ve mentioned Michy’s ‘Back Checker Strategy’ several times before, and we’ve covered his advice about the Butterfly Anchor (the 3-point) - focussing on when it’s time to run (if you have zero or one spare checkers in the outfield, as in this position). So I hope I didn’t lure you into a trap with this week’s title, because the right move is to stay.
If you’d rolled 54 and could safety one of your back checkers on the mid-point, it absolutely would be correct to run now. But Michy’s proverbs for the butterfly anchor include “Be reluctant to leave…if both back checkers come under threat”. That would be the case here, and it’s just too risky for you.
Instead 8/2 3/2 minimises risk and builds your board, and puts the pressure to perform back on White.
